This picture was taken August 19, 2018, 6 days after Murphy’s symptoms of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction first surfaced. He stopped eating, forgot how to walk up the stairs to our apartment, was incontinent and confused. He didn’t seem to know me or know where he was. He stood in the corner of our living room staring at the wall until I moved him.
Five months passed since then. Five months of research, confusion and tears. Five months filled with moments of doubt and moments of elation. During those five months I decided to treat Murphy holistically.
I learned about patience and trust. I learned that action (almost any action) is better than no action at all. I learned not to be afraid of trying and that not trying is far worse.
Mostly, I learned about the magic of holistics, as I watched them bring my boy back to me. CCD is a cruel taskmaster. The game changes every day, one day is good, the next day not so much.
